Miasya Parker is Black Girls Vote’s Collegiate Ambassador Co-Lead. This is a very fitting position for her to hold, because she is also the founder of the first collegiate chapter of BGV, at Morgan State University. Miasya was born and raised in New York. And although she attended MSU and graduated in 2019, she returned to the tristate area to begin her professional career. She now works full-time as an educator, while also attending graduate school to obtain a Masters degree in City & Regional Planning/Urban Studies.
Who says Black girls can’t have it all?
We are so proud of you, Miasya! You have been instrumental to the growth of BGV, and we are grateful for the time, effort, and work that you have put in. Keep showing us your #BlackGirlMagic!!
This month, we are excited to Pass the Torch to Yolanda Waters! Yolanda is a Multimedia Journalism major at Morgan State, who will be graduating in May of 2022. She Is a Washington DC native, but she says that she calls BGV her home. “I love that BGV has been my home for the last four years. The mission and drive to continue to go into the community to actively get people registered to vote is inspiration. Being able to talk to the community daily and inspiring them to vote is powerful. The mission does not stop after the elections and that is what I love the most.”
During her last year at Morgan, she is excited for the upcoming events MSU BGV will be hosting (follow @msubgv on Instagram to get the full details), and continuing the BGV High School Voter Registration series. After graduation, she would like to start her career in the media field, specifically looking for opportunities at a local radio or news station.
One full semester left, Yolanda! We cannot wait to celebrate your graduation with you! And even after you close this chapter, BGV will support your transition into the next chapter of your life. We recognize your light and uplift your work, as we pass the torch to you: the next generation.
